Peace One Day

Jeremy Gilley (on Twitter) decided that there should be an international day of peace. Most of us would agree. Some of us may have even thought this before. However, Jeremy refused to let it be a passing thought. He made it happen. He organized talks with the UN and other world leaders and eventually was able to get the date of September 21 officially declared as a day of Peace.

Unfortunately, it was supposed to be announced on September 11, 2001. The UN was evacuated, and the announcement lost a lot of it’s steam. Jeremy wasn’t deterred. He spent years promoting the day and trying to make the “official day” and actual reality. More than once he found himself completely broke and unable to continue without outside support, but each time he able to get what he needed. His passion really shows though, and just watching him talk about it you can’t help but feel excited. He was able to get the support of Johnny Lee Miller, Angelina Jolie, Jude Law, and even Coca-Cola, and you’ll understand why as you watch the film.

However, all that pales in comparison to what he was ultimately able to achieve in Afghanistan, getting Polio vaccines to places that were never able to receive such support. You’ll be utterly amazed when you see the letter he received and who signed it! Everyone should really watch this…probably on a regular basis just to remind yourself of what’s possible.
